We are excited about growing in our faith with you through Lent to Holy Week and Easter!
What is the season of Lent, and how does it relate to Easter?
The season of Lent serves not only as a time to meditate on the suffering that Christ endured on our behalf but also as an opportunity to reflect upon our own Baptism and what it means to live as a child of God. If you have questions about baptism, or wish to be baptized, please contact us using the form at the bottom of this page, or call Trinity at 630-894-3263.
Maundy Thursday
Maundy Thursday is the day before our Lord’s Crucifixion. The word “maundy” comes from “mandatum novum,” which means “new commandment” This commandment can be found in the Gospel of John, chapter 13 verse 4: "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another." The sacrament of Holy Communion as instituted by Christ at The Last Supper also comes from Maundy Thursday.
Good Friday
Good Friday is the day Jesus sacrificed himself on the cross to pay the debt of our sins and wash them away. It was foretold hundreds of years earlier by the prophet Isaiah:
"He was pierced for our transgressions;
he was crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,
and with his wounds we are healed.
Good Friday is a day for repentance over sin and restrained joy and praise for the redemption Christ accomplished for us on the cross.
Easter
At Easter Christians worship and celebrate Christ's resurrection and his total victory over death and the devil. Christ’s resurrection proves that Christ is the son of God; His doctrine is the truth; God the Father accepted Christ’s sacrifice for the reconciliation of the world; and all believers in Christ will rise to eternal life!
